Mary Bates. Aug 14 1849.

Small samplers such as this example are always desirable and display much charm and delicacy through the symetrical balance of miniature birds, fruit baskets etc.

Framed Size 7.5 x 7.5 ins.

Hannah Harper. 1848.

A rare sampler with a very long faultlessly executed text worked in mixed media with a vibrant floral beaded border. Extravagantly beaded clothing was popular during this period and this sampler reflects the fashion of the time.

Framed size: 49 x 67 cm.

Jane Spooner. c. 1830

Contained in a period birds-eye maple frame. Coloured silks on fine wool.
Framed size: 20 x 16 in.

Eliza Duffield. Aged 10. 1843.
Bishop of Canterbury’s Palace

Despite the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury being Lambeth Palace the image embroidered on this sampler is clearly Canterbury Cathedral.
Framed Size: 21 x 17 ins. 51 x 43 cm.

Walker Family Record.
Framingham. Middlesex County, Massachusetts. 1822.

Wonderfully worked in vibrantly rich floss silks this sampler records details of births, marriages and deaths of the family of Matthias Walker and his wife Jane Moulton. Begun and signed in 1822 by their daughter Mary the sampler spans the years until the death of her sister Jane in 1876.

Framed size: 63 x 68cm (25 x 27 ins).

Jane Walmsley. 1835. Mount Pleasant, Preston.

A large sampler full of imagery worked with brightly coloured floss and twisted silks on an unbleached loosely woven linen ground. From past research we know of the existence of one other very similar sampler also worked at Mount Pleasant School.

Framed Size. 29 x 24 ins.

Ann Leaver. 1834.

An exceptional sampler finely embroidered in coloured silks. An extravagant and freely worked floral border surrounds the meticulously stitched text. Probably worked under Quaker influence.

Framed size: 54 x 63 cm

Elizabeth Kimpton. March 1840.

An extravagant large pictorial sampler worked in coloured silks on a cream wool ground. Berlin patterns first published in Germany have been adapted to produce a three dimensional effect by careful shading of the silks.

Contained in the original maple frame. Framed size: 25 x 24 ins.
